Having an organized home is very important especially when living in a small home. You just need to focus on essential stuff on your home and nothing else. You may also need some creativity in order to create more storage space than there seems to be. This article describes couple of ways of taking advantage of existing space.

Get rid of all unused stuff

Like in any home organization project, this is the most important part. Especially when there is little free space available, this becomes the most important thing to do. So get those boxes and plastic bags ready and get rid of all the items you don't need. This creates more for the stuff you actually use on frequent basis.

Use vertical space as well

If possible, you can use the vertical space as much as possible. You can do this by having shelves for storing various items there. Another way to use vertical space is the closet doors, although in this situation the items cannot be that heavy. This can be done by buying over-the-door or back-of-the-door organizers. Back-of-the-door organizers have the benefit of being inside the door, so it is visually more appealing than keeping your storage visible outside.

Use storage inside furniture

Sometimes even the furniture itself has some storage space in it, so it can be utilized as well. For example, your coffee table might have a place for storing the magazines or newspapers. Another classic example is television stand storage, which enables you to keep for example DVDs, CDs or magazines out of sight.

Put everything back where they belongThis is extremely important point as well. You need to put the items you have used back where they belong and the sooner you do it the better. So create a habit of doing this automatically and there will be less clutter visible in your small home.
