In the summertime, it can be challenging to wear suits to the office when the weather is hot and humid outside.  You can make adjustments in your wardrobe during the summer while still maintaining a professional look.

For instance, avoid wearing shorts at any cost.  Even so-called "work shorts" are usually inappropriate for the office.  Some environments might allow this, but you should avoid any type of shorts if you are uncertain.

Similarly, tank tops are never appropriate at the office.  You should still maintain a professional look by choosing a sleeveless shirt rather than a casual tank top.  This rule still applies even on a casual Friday.

Shirts with humorous sayings are never appropriate, even if you have just returned from a vacation.  Keep these mementos at home where they belong.

Avoid the temptation to wear sunglasses indoors.  This can signal to your boss that you may have been partying or drinking the night before.

Flip flops and sandals are also off-limits during the summertime.  In fact, you should avoid open-toed shoes of any kind in a formal workplace.  They are too casual and inappropriate for the workplace.  However, you can keep a pair of comfortable sandals or flip flops in your car to change into after work has ended.

Never wear your bathing suit underneath your work attire, even if you are planning on going to the beach after work.  In nearly every case, your co-workers will be able to spot your swimsuit underneath your clothing, which is not appropriate for an office environment.  It is best to keep your bathing suit in your car for changing into at a later time.

Always keep your company's guidelines for professional dress in mind, even during the summertime. If you are unsure about a certain piece of clothing, then avoid wearing it.
